摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element having a liquid crystal layer containing a chiral nematic liquid crystal and substrates which sandwich the liquid crystal layer and on which a stabilizing film or the stabilizing film and an insulating film are formed, and which is low in driving voltage and excellent in contrast. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element LE3 is formed by laminating liquid crystal cells Cb, Cg and Cr. The liquid crystal cells Cb, Cg and Cr have liquid crystal layers Lb, Lg and Lr, respectively. The liquid crystal layers Lb, Lg and Lr include chiral nematic liquid crystals having selective reflection wavelength in the regions of blue, green and red, respectively. The thickness of each liquid crystal layer is specified to be 3-6μm. Each liquid crystal layer is interposed between the substrates S1 and S2. An electrode E1, an insulating film IS1 and a stabilizing film ST1 are formed on the substrate S1 and the total film thickness of the insulating film IS1 and the stabilizing film ST1 is 300-1,500Å. An electrode E2 and a stabilizing film ST2 are formed on the substrate S2 and the stabilizing film ST2 has 300-1,500Åfilm thickness.
