PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning device and a cleaning blade used for the cleaning device for removing the toner remaining on the toner carrying surface in contact with the toner image carrying surface and uniformly cleaning the surface, and also, capable of preventing such the deformation that the cleaning blade gets turned up in the advancing direction of the surface to be cleaned. SOLUTION: The cleaning blade 21 is attached to a sheet-like supporting member 24 which is fixedly supported, and the blade is abutted on the surface to be cleaned so that the leading end of the blade may face the upstream side in the advancing direction of the surface to be cleaned, and a notch 25 is formed near the part attached with the supporting member so that it may be nearly parallel to the leading end, then, the bending deformation easily occurs. Thus, even in the case the rigidity is increased near the leading end part of the cleaning blade, the large deformation occurs by the appropriate contact pressure, and the contact pressure is stabilized. Besides, such the deformation that the cleaning blade gets turned up is prevented by constituting the blade so that the leading end part may have the high rigidity.
