PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly hold fast a catalyst carrier from the initial stage, the catalyst carrier being accommodated in a casing. SOLUTION: The catalyst carrier 10 is formed by winding a holding material 12 maintained in the compressed condition by a binding force of a binder and is accommodated in the casing 8. The binder is pyrolyzed by the heat generated when one end 16 of the casing 8 is joined with the outlet side end 6 of an exhaust manifold 4 covering the casing end 16 by the friction pressure joining method. Thereby the thickness of the holding material 12 is restored, and the catalyst carrier 10 can be held fast in the casing 8 at the specified initial contacting pressure to allow preventing the carrier 10 from dislocation in the initial period, and it is practicable to certainly prevent the carrier 10 from breakage certainly. |
