SURFACE CLEANING APPARATUS AND METHOD

A cleaning tool accepts and retains a roll of absorbent towelling such that the surface of the rolled towel may contact a surface such as window glass to clean and polish the surface. The tool includes a fixed rod, tapered at one end over which is slid the towel roll. The fixed rod is held in a horizontal position by a frame made up of two supporting arms. One arm is hinged and permanently attached to one end of the rod; the other arm has a coupling device for attachment to the other end of the rod. A horizontally mounted plate extends between the arms to provide lateral support to the mounted roll to prevent unravelling of the towelling during use, and to provide a serrated edge for removal of used towelling. The frame is fastened to a handle housing a female thread fitting to which may be attached a removeable extension pole for remote cleaning applications. In an alternative embodiment a single arm supports the rod and towel roll, the arm featuring a hinge and locking device. Further embodiments of the device relate to alternative methods of lateral support for the loaded towel roll.
