PURPOSE: An apparatus for automatically measuring distance between edger rolls in a hot rolling facility is provided, wherein the apparatus is equipped with a means capable of completely preventing collision between measuring head and edger rolls. CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus for automatically measuring distance between edger rolls comprising a measuring head for measuring a distance between rough rolling edger rolls(3) of a hot rolling facility, a telescopic transfer implement for ascending the measuring head to a measuring position or descending the measuring head to a non-measuring position, and an operating room for controlling the apparatus by receiving measuring signals from the measuring head, the apparatus comprises high frequency proximity sensors(15) which are installed at positions adjacent to the rear end part of a driving screw(13) of the edger rolls to sense distance between the edger rolls by detecting a moving position of the rear end part of the driving screw(13); and a signal processing unit(16) for transmitting the calculated distance between the edger rolls to the operating room by calculating a distance between the edger rolls after receiving signals for the moving position of the rear end part of the driving screw(13) from the high frequency proximity sensors(15).
