A blank cartridge firing attachment for an automatic firearm comprises a barrel 1 which is adapted to be inserted lengthwise into the firearm barrel A and locked in position about the muzzle thereof, the barrel 1 having a dished recess 15 to receive the crimped nose of a blank cartridge and a bore restriction 16 adjacent the recess. The barrel 1 shown has a tapered bore 19 at the muzzle end, and at this end there is a shoulder 3 for positioning the attachment on the barrel A. The locking means consists of spring-controlled arms 9 pivoted at 10 to a yoke 6 screw-threaded on an end part 2 of the barrel 1. Grips 11 on the arms, by engaging recesses 12 in the firearm, lock the attachment in position when a thumb nut 7 fast with the part 2 is rotated. The cartridges employed have crimped ends 24 providing central openings with serrated edges. The serrated edge of a cartridge serves to tear the wad 25 on firing.
