METHOD FOR PRODUCING AROMATIC POLYCARBONATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially favorable method for producing a high- quality aromatic polycarbonate good in color and slightly causing discoloration even at high temperatures of >=380 deg.C with a small reduction in molecular weight when the aromatic polycarbonate is produced by a melt polycondensation method. SOLUTION: This method for producing the aromatic polycarbonate comprises using a diaryl carbonate having (a) <=200 wt.ppm moisture content, (b) <=1 wt.ppm copper content and (c) <=3 wt.ppm o,o'-biphenylene carbonate content is used as the diaryl carbonate in the method for producing the aromatic polycarbonate by polymerizing an aromatic dihydroxy compound with the diaryl carbonate in a molten state.
