ORIENTED ALUMINA CERAMICS AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an oriented alumina ceramics, by which the oriented alumina ceramics can be fabricated into an optional shape from alumina particles oriented in an optional direction and to provide the oriented alumina ceramics obtained by this manufacturing method. SOLUTION: α-Alumina particles are mixed with a solvent to prepare α-alumina slurry and the prepared slurry is made to flow into a prescribed container. The magnetic field of 1T or more is applied to the α-alumina slurry in the container to orient the α-alumina particles in the direction of the applied magnetic field. The α-alumina slurry is dried in the container and sintered in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to obtain an oriented alumina sintered compact consisting of the α-alumina particles oriented in the direction of the applied magnetic field.
