PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier for a bioreactor having water swellability, controlled in specific gravity, capable of being uniformly fluidized in a reaction tank and high in physical strength. SOLUTION: The carrier for the bioreactor contains (A) a water swellable thermoplastic resin and (B) a specific inorganic filler added at the time of production of the resin and/or at the time of molding and the specific gravity thereof at the time of swelling with water is controlled to 1.02-1.35. The carrier for the bioreactor is used as a carrier for fixing microorganisms in a method for nitrifying and denitrifying organic wastewater by microorganisms to perform the denitrifying treatment of organic wastewater.
