METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYESTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester capable of reducing foulings in a treating vessel or a pipe during water treatment of polyester chips with water, further scarcely causing metal mold foulings during molding and capable of improving the trans parency or crystallization in a mouth cap part of a bottle. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polyester is characterized by removing fines and/or filmy materials having the melting point exceeding 265 deg.C from chips of the polyester and then treating the resultant chips with water in the method for producing the polyester comprising treating the chips of the polyester having a main repeating unit which is ethylene terephthalate with water in the treating vessel.
