PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fruit/vegetable retainer suitable for retaining and transferring strawberries (fruits/vegetables) arranged and fed on harvest trays without damaging the fruits, sorting them into classes, and packed them into prescribed storage packs. SOLUTION: This fruit/vegetable retainer is provided with a bottomed and cylindrical shaft body 12, a suction pad 13 composed of a bellows body installed in an open end of the shaft body and sucking and retaining the fruits in the tip, a pair of bearings 16 and 16 retaining the shaft body with a prescribed clearance so as to advance/retreat axially, and a retaining cylinder 15 retaining the shaft body with a negative pressure chamber formed between the bearings. When the negative pressure chamber is sucked, a prescribed suction force is generated in the tip of the suction pad via a communication hole 17 provided in the wall face of the shaft body and an air layer is formed in a support part of the shaft body by the bearings so as to smooth the support.
