PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt exchanger for automatically replacing a polishing belt for a steel strip polishing machine having a contact roll rotationally driven by a motor and the polishing belt carried on an idler roller for polishing a steel strip. SOLUTION: A pair of exchanger heads are installed on a truck 32 to be moved forward and backward to the polishing machine, and each of the exchanger heads can be shifted a preset distance in the direction of feeding the steel strip and one of the exchanger heads can be connected to the polishing machine. Each of the exchanger heads has mandrels 46 in a semicircular section, capable of increasing or decreasing in diameter, arranged at the upper and lower parts thereof and an air chuck provided to be movable forward and backward, and the polishing belt 56 for exchange is hung between the mandrels of one exchanger head. The air chuck grips the used polishing belt 53 to be hung on a roll 2 of the polishing machine, pulls it into the exchanger head and carries it on the mandrel. Then, the exchanger head is shifted a preset distance to be changed over, and the air chuck grips the polishing belt 56 for exchange, pushes it to the polishing machine and hangs it on the roll 2. |
