PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial antibacterial mildewproofing agent, an algicide and an antifouling agent containing a catechol derivative and free from the problems of conventional antibacterial agent, etc., containing chemicals suspected to cause the adverse effect on human body and the pollution of environment and antifouling agent containing organotin compound having high toxicity. SOLUTION: The industrial antibacterial mildewproofing agent, algicide or antifouling agent contains a catechol derivative expressed by general formula (1) (R1 is a 1-3C alkyl; R2 is a 1-9C straight-chain alkyl; and A is C(O)-CH2-CH2, C(O)-CH2-CH(OH), C(O)-CH=CH or CH(OH)-CH2-CH(OH)).
