SOLUTION: In this sheet feeder comprising a sheet feed roller 30 and a separating member 42 which is urged toward the sheet feed roller 30 in which a sheet in contact with the sheet feed roller 30 is passed between the sheet feed roller 30 and the separating member 42 as the sheet feed roller 30 is rotated, a regulating plate 44 is installed on the separating member side with a predetermined gap a with reference to a sheet carrying passage h in the vicinity of the separating member 42.
