PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tertiary butoxy styrene such as PTBS(para-tertiary butoxy styrene) or MTBS(meta-tertiary butoxy styrene) free from biphenyl as an impurity. SOLUTION: This method for preparing a tertiary butoxy styrene free from biphenyl as an impurity comprises reacting with a Grignard reagent prepared from a tertiary butoxy phenyl halide a vinyl halide in the presence of at one least kind of catalyst selected from the group consisting of a manganese base catalyst, an iron base catalyst, a cobalt base catalyst and a rhodium base catalyst.
