PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for regulating a direction of a holding member in a capper wherein even a directional capper can be reliably held and made to correspond to a mouth of a container with a simple structure and operation. SOLUTION: The capper W comprises a rotary shaft 2 rotatably and liftably provided on a machine body 1, a rolled body 4 coupled with the rotary shaft 2 via a rolling torque regulating means 3 and a holding member 5 of a cap provided at an end of the rolled body 4. In this capper W, the rolled body 4 is equipped with a lock 6 which rotates together with the body 4, and a regulator 7 in contact with the lock 6 when the member 5 receives the cap is provided on the machine body 1 in a rotation track of the lock 6.
