PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high-quality bisphenol A to give an aromatic polycarbonate not discoloring during its production or in molding the obtained aromatic polycarbonate in producing the aromatic polycarbonate by using bisphenol A as a raw material and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This high-quality bisphenol A has <=80 ppb sodium content and <=50 ppb content of each element of the group A consisting of iron, nickel, chromium, manganese, lead and molybdenum. Or this high-quality bisphenol A has specific amounts or smaller amounts of organic compounds such as a 1-naphthol derivative, 9,9'-dimethylxanthene, 2-(4-hydroxylphenyl)-2,4,4- trimethylchroman, 2,2,4-trimethylchromene, etc. This method for producing high-quality bisphenol A is provided.
