PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying formylphenylboronic acid. SOLUTION: A method for purifying a formylphenylboric acid of the formula (I). The method comprises the following processes: a crude formylphenylboric acid is dissolved in an alkaline solvent, insoluble organic impurities are removed, successively the resulting alkaline solution of the boronic acid is made acidic, the precipitate of the boronic acid are collected, and precipitate is treated. The crude formylphenylboronic acid is dissolved preferably in an aqueous solution of an oxide, hydroxide, carbonate salt or phosphate salt of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal at 5-50 deg.C. The obtained formylphenylboronic acid has a purity of >=99%, and it is suitable as a precursor for a liquid crystal compound, a liquid crystal, a constituting component for a liquid crystal mixture, or a pharmaceutical intermediate.
