PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telomerization method for tetrafluoroethylene capable of obtaining a product consisting essentially of a telomer of n=1 while maintaining a relatively high methanol conversion. SOLUTION: In producing a fluoroalkanol represented by general formula H(CF2CF2)nCH2OH by a telomerization reaction between tetrafluoroethylene and methanol, the method for producing fluoroalkanol is characterized in that the reaction is carried out in the partial pressure ratio of tetrafluoroethylene to methanol of <1/5 under a total reaction pressure and a temperature conditions enclosed by A, B, C and D in figure 4, the formation of products of n>=2 in the general formula is controlled and an alcohol mixture consisting essentially of the product of n=1 is obtained. |
