PURPOSE: To provide a head gasket capable of minutely and easily adjusting a seal bearing pressure of beads, setting the optimum seal bearing pressure, and ensuring sufficient sealing performance and preventing permanent set in fatigue without damaging an engine member. CONSTITUTION: In the head gasket 1 for an engine having a first metallic constituent plate 10 and a second metallic constituent plate 20 and a third metallic constituent plate 30 laminated on both sides of it, respectively, and having beads 21, 31 for sealing cylinder bore hole 2 making their projecting parts face the first metallic constituent plate 10, a first annular step difference coating 40 and a second annular step difference coating 50 which are made of synthetic resin are arranged on at least one face of the first metallic constituent plate 10 in parts on an inner peripheral side and an outer peripheral side of the beads 21, 31, respectively, and a thickness of the first step difference coating is formed to be larger than a thickness of the second step difference coating.
