PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back light device for a liquid crystal display device which has a simple structure and can be made small in size. SOLUTION: The substrate 14 of the back light device has such a form that a plurality of planar side face part 14b as inclined to the side of a diffusion sheet 3 is joined to the edge of the bottom part 14a. A light source 11 is attached to the bottom part 14a in the diffusion sheet 3 side. A reflection sheet 13 is adhered on the side face part 14b in the side to be irradiated with light from the light source 11, and circuit parts 12 are attached to the back face of the side face part to form driving circuits.
