PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of the difficulty in the adjustment of an incident beam, which is experienced by an overfill type optical scanner, to avoid a disturbance in the information on a scanned body, and to easily adjust the width and the position of the incident beam. SOLUTION: The optical scanner is provided with a turning back mirror 60 which turns an incident beam 52 back to a rotating polygon mirror 51 and/or an incident beam adjustment means 73, which adjusts the width and/or the position of the incident beam 52 after reflected on the turning back mirror 60, in the vicinity of the turning back mirror 60.
