摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an STN type liquid crystal display device in which a bright screen can be obtained by using the external light entering from the front side with high efficiency. SOLUTION: A reflection polarizing plate 10 is disposed in the front side of a liquid crystal device having the liquid crystal molecules aligned as twisted by 180 deg. to 270 deg. twist angle. The reflection polarizing plate 10 reflects one of two polarized light components perpendicular to each other of the incident light and transmits the other polarized light component. An absorption polarizing plate 15 and a reflection film 14 are disposed in the back side of the liquid crystal device 1. The light entering from the front side and transmitting through the reflection polarizing plate 10, liquid crystal device 1 and absorption polarizing plate 15 is reflected by the reflection film 14 to outgo to the front side, as well as the light of the one polarized light component in the incident light from the front side and reflected by the reflection polarizing plate 10 is used to enhance the brightness of the whole screen.
