METHOD FOR REPRODUCING COLOR IMAGE OF SCENE BY USING PREFERENTIAL COLOR MAPPING AND SCENE-DEPENDENT TONE SCALE CONSTITUTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for emphasizing the color feature and lightness feature of a digital color image having a pixel value which can be used for deriving a digital luminance value and a digital color difference value to achieve improved color reproduction. SOLUTION: This method is provided with: a step for deriving the digital luminance value and digital color difference value concerning the pixels of the digital color image; a step for calculating image-dependent conversion by using the pixels of the digital color image; a step for generating a corrected luminance value by correcting the digital luminance value concerning the pixels of the digital color image by using the image dependent conversion; a step for calculating preferable color conversion for correcting the original digital color difference value closer to or away from a prescribed digital color difference value to smoothly move the value consistently; and a step for generating a corrected color difference value by correcting the original color difference value concerning the pixels of the digital color image by using the color conversion.
