PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of error discrimination in an error discrimination method for evaluation of a sensor signal, wherein a sensor and an evaluation device post-connected thereto are used, the evaluation device forms a variable reference level from the output signal from the sensor, the reference level is compared with an upper and/lower limit values for error discrimination, and when the reference level in the actual point of time is above the upper limit value by a prescribe value and/or below the lower limit value by a prescribed value, an error is estimated. SOLUTION: In this method, at least one limit value is formed depending on the preceding reference value.
