PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image output device and a compound function type camera, which can be realized at low cost, can easily be miniaturized, can efficiently read images and has a highly practical image output function by further improving the image output device and the camera. SOLUTION: This device has a light source for illuminating an image on a film drawn out of a cartridge incorporated with a loaded developed film, an image reading unit for reading that image information through photoelectric conversion and an image information output unit for outputting the image information to an image display unit for displaying the image information. The image reading unit whose size is almost equal to or larger than that of an image area on the film is located proximately to the film, and is a two-dimensional photoelectric converting device for receiving light carrying image information transmitted through the film or is a two-dimensional photoelectric converting device for receiving light transmitting through the film and carrying image information imaged through an imaging lens system.
