PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provided a cooling structure of an internal combustion engine which can be used for both of water cooling and air cooling without basically changing a main structure. SOLUTION: In a cooling structure for an internal combustion engine, a flow passage 70 around a cylinder bore of a cylinder block 4 is communicated to a flow passage 80 around a combustion chamber of a cylinder head 5 to form a cooling passage, an opening portion to the outside for a flow passage of a cylinder head 5 is water-tightly closed by a cover member 9 to thereby circulate a cooling water in the cooling passage as a water jacket, or to make the air flow in the cooling passage as an air jacket, thereby making an air cooled internal combustion engine.
