PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute various kinds of image processing algorithms at higher speed by changing an algorithm and a parameter to be used for image processing in real time without interposing an external processor or the like in an image processor provided with an SIMD type computing element. SOLUTION: An image signal is composed of density data and control data and a first arithmetic part 402 composed of the SIMD type computing element performs image processing to the density data according to contents shown by the control data. In the SIMD computing element, the algorithm and the parameter to be used for image processing can be changed in real time, the density data are irreversibly compressed and preserved in a density data storage part 501, and the control data are reversibly compressed and preserved in a control data storage part 502. Thus, the image signal is preserved with high compression efficiency without destroying information required for image processing.
