PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make efficient communication by preventing the occurrence of a situation that the data exchange by means of another application becomes restricted, while a limited transmission band is used for the transmission of the image data of the same frame. SOLUTION: A hard disk recorder 31 reproduces image data from a hard disk 41 and transmits the reproduced data to a digital television monitor 32 via an IEEE1394 cable 3. Upon receiving the image data from the recorder 31, the monitor 32 updates a frame memory 55 by using the image data of a new frame and at the same time, displays the image data on a display 53. When a pause is instructed to the recorder 31 or the monitor 32, the recorder 31 stops the reproduction of image data from the hard disk 41 and the transmission of the data, and the monitor 32 displays on the display 53 the image data of the frame which is stored last in the frame memory 55.
