PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem in the automatization of operation that, upon assembly of a boot of a ball joint 1, an operation to fit a large diameter opening end 4a of the boot 4 into the outer periphery of a socket 2 with a large diameter is difficult to conduct. SOLUTION: By pressing a cylindrical part 4b of the boot 4 externally in radial direction by a plurality of pawls arranged radially, the large diameter opening end 4a of the boot 4 is made to deform elastically in a waveform or a corolla shape, thereby a guiding part for fitting into the outer periphery of the socket 2 is formed, and, under such condition, the large diameter opening end 4a of the boot 4 is made engaged in the outer periphery of the socket 2 by pushing a shoulder part 4c of the boot 4 in axial direction.
