PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine automatic stop and start device mounted in a vehicle provided with a transmission maintaining a shift position for start using hydraulic fluid and capable of satisfactorily making the improvement of fuel economy due to automatic stop control of an engine compatible with the avoidance of worsening of drivability due to the inhibition of the control when a temperature is low. SOLUTION: A gear transmission part 6 is controlled by a hydraulic control part 10 using hydraulic fluid. The hydraulic fluid is pressurized by an oil pump 16 whose power is supplied by the engine 2 when the engine 2 operates and by an electric oil pump 18 when the engine 2 is stopped and controlled, respectively. When the engine 2 stops automatically, shift for start is maintained by the operation of the electric oil pump 18. The automatic stop control of the engine 2 is inhibitted when oil temperature detected by an oil temperature sensor 36 does not reach a predetermined value, which is changed in accordance with external air temperature detected by an external air temperature sensor 35.
