PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic image pickup device by which a user can intensively selectively use an optical zoom and an electronic zoom through a common zoom operating means without using a special operating member. SOLUTION: A zoom key 32 is also used as an operating part for commanding the optical zoom and the electronic zoom. In an optical zoom area, 'TELE' direction operation is performed and when the 'TELE' terminal of the optical zoom is reached, zoom operation is temporarily stopped. Afterwards, when pressing of the zoom key 32 is canceled and the zoom key 32 is operated in a 'TELE' direction again, the electronic zoom is started. Besides, operation is performed in a 'WIDE' direction in the electronic zoom area and the 'WIDE' terminal of the electronic zoom is reached, zoom processing is temporarily stopped. Then, when the zoom key 32 is operated in the 'WIDE' direction again, the optical zoom is started.
