PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To derive missing information from obtained information when merchandise selection information is insufficient, and to quickly make an appropriate merchandise selection by supplementing the merchandise selection information with the derived information. SOLUTION: This merchandise selection device comprises the following: a calculation engine 26 which calculates a material magnetic force/strength/ environmental characteristic 28 necessary for material selection from product/ part/forming information 22 obtained from a user; a material information database 30 to which a material manufacturer accumulates material data 32 including a material magnetic force characteristic 34, a material environmental characteristic 36 and a material strength characteristic 38 of a product line; and a data management part 31 which extracts the material satisfying the material magnetic force/strength/environmental characteristic 28 from the materials accumulated in the material information database 30.
