<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processor which is superior in the expansibility of communication with external equipment and a communication function extension method. SOLUTION: The information processor equipped with a CPU 6 and a memory 5 connected to an internal local bus is equipped with a data transmission and reception part 1 which sends and receives data to and from a public network, a sound encoding and decoding part 2a which encodes and decodes sound data, an image encoding and decoding part 2b which encodes and decodes image data, an external input/output interface controller 3 which performs control regarding input/output interfaces with respect to external units, and an input/ output switching part 4 which forms a data path selectively among the data transmission and reception part, the sound encoding and decoding part, the image encoding and decoding part, and the image input/output interface controller. The formation of the data path by the input/output switching part 4 is controlled by the CPU 6 or the external input/output interface controller 3.</p> |
