PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a yoke type magnetic head using a spin valve element, used in a magnetic recording/reproducing device, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: This yoke spin type valve magnetic head 100 is at least provided with yokes 19, 18 and 17 being upper, middle and lower parts disposed to introduce a magnetic flux, a magnetic gap 20 formed of the upper and lower yokes 19 and 17, and a yoke gap part 21 installed on the midway of the magnetic path of the lower yoke. On a tantalum film, through an oxidized protective film 15 obtained by oxidizing a metal thin film 15A as the protective film of a spin valve magneto-resistance effect element having other metal thin film laminated, the spin valve magneto-resistance effect element brought into contact with the lower yoke is disposed in the lower part yoke over the yoke gap part.
