Phenolic resin-modified natural resin binders (I) containing cyclopentadiene-derived units, obtained by a 2-stage process comprising: (1) reacting natural resins (A) or their acids with phenolic resins (B) to form phenolic resin-modified natural resins (AB) and natural resin acids with an acid number 90 mg/g; and (2) reacting (AB) with (G) (di)cyclopentadiene. The reactions are performed at 100-300[deg]C. An independent claim is also included for the production of the resins (I).
