The procedure for the location of a bearing bush in a forged steel connecting rod entails forming an opening in the connecting rod, which is forge heated to 900 degrees C, by using a piercing punch acting in a single pass over the width of the bearing and then installing in the penetration a bearing bush made from bearing material. In a multi-section punching device the punch has a bearing bush located close and co-axially with it so that it can be fitted straight after the punching out of the hole.
