A method executed by an access system for enabling a client to access a communications network, the method including receiving an access request for a resource of the network, determining if the request includes a unique identifier for the client, removing the identifier and recording data related to the request using the identifier, when the request includes the identifier, and redirecting the request to instruct the client to store the identifier when the request omits the identifier.
