In display and image reproduction appliances, the environmental luminosity must be taken into account. This requires an optical sensor entailing extra technical effort. The invention relates to a circuit which enables the surrounding luminosity to be determined by means of a sensor for receiving data or control signals which is already in the appliance. Said circuit is especially for appliances used in entertainment electronics.
