<p>A fluid meter particle isolating system (20) having a tortuous path (25) formed between a pair of walls (22, 28) with an inlet and an outlet. The inlet is open to a clean zone (14) while an outlet is open to a particle contaminated zone (18). The walls (22, 28) include partitions (26) that form a tortuous path (25) separating it into a plurality of chambers (23). An impeller (30) constructed of a plurality of open cells (33-42) forming a piston structure (31) is provided in the tortuous path (25) and has an axis (31) of motion parallel to the walls (22, 28). Each cell (42) forms a vessel for transmitting fluid media under a low pressure from a clean zone (14) toward a contaminated zone (18) to prevent particles generated in the contaminated zone (18) from migrating to the clean zone (14). Each vessel is formed by the four walls (43, 44, 45, 46) of each cell (42) having a bottom surface (48) contoured to provide a transition (50) from one cell to the next through an exit port (56).</p> |
