A light curtain device (10) for creating a curtain of light between a reflective first location (14) and a second location (16) is disclosed. The device includes a light source (18) adapted to provide a light column (20), a plurality of beam splitters (22a, 22b, 22c, ..., 22n), a plurality of light detectors (26a, 26b, 26c, ..., 26n), and an indicator (27) arranged to indicate the interruption of the light column (20). The beam splitters (22a, 22b, 22c, ..., 22n) are disposed to intersect the light column (20) at intervals, and each of the beam splitters is adapted to direct a deflected portion of the light column (20) toward the first location (14). The reflective first location receives the deflected portion of the light column (20) from each of the beam splitters and reflects are deflected portion toward the second location (16). The light detectors are disposed adjacent the second location (16), with each of the light detectors being operatively associated with a corresponding one of the beam splitters and being positioned to receive its corresponding deflected portion reflected by the reflector (28). |
