Damage caused by unauthorised use of credit cards can be limited all the more effectively the sooner the credit card holder reports an unauthorised use to the card company. Known methods for checking the protection of the credit card or the identity of the user have not been effectively implemented in practice. Account-freezing cards and a reported account freeze are dependent on the time the unauthorised use is recorded. The invention relates to a method whereby credit card payment processes can be controlled by the credit card holder almost at the same time as the operation is carried out. The method uses the "Short-Message-Service" (SMS), as known in mobile radio telephony, in such a way that the payment processes are displayed to the credit card holder on the display screen of his/her mobile radio telephone device without delay. A transfer centre in the mobile radio telephone service network co-operates with the card companies and sends the payment process data in the form of an SMS message to the mobile radio telephone device of the credit card holder. Said method can be used in an analogous manner in the fixed network as long as an SMS-type service is available. |
