The invention concerns a device for monitoring a baby's breathing comprising at least a sensor, electronic means and warning or alarm means adapted to: detect the presence of at least a hot spot in the temperature range between 35 and 39 DEG C corresponding to that of expired air by means of a passive infrared sensor (5); identify the presence of the respiratory rhythm by analysing the signals received from said sensor and with a microprocessor provided with ROM software enabling it to detect successive breathing out phases; to trigger stimuli in the form of a light flash (6) and acoustic signals (14) in case of respiratory dysfunction or prolonged apnea.
