The invention relates to a composite membrane for the selective diffusion of substances. The inventive membrane has a thickness D and two surfaces. The membrane comprises a first material permeable to at least a first substance, and a second material selectively permeable to the first substance, the second material being disposed in the first material in such a way that predetermined substances other than the first substance have to follow a permeation path through the membrane that is longer than D, while the first substance can follow a permeation path through the membrane that is substantially equal D. The invention further relates to laminated multilayer membranes and to a method for producing said membranes.
