The invention comprises a kit for assembling a loose-leaf photograph album or scrapbook (10). The preferred loose-leaf photograph album or scrapbook (10) includes a pair of covers (12, 14) enfolding a plurality of pages (16). The covers (12, 14) and the pages (16) are laced together by means of at least one, and most preferably two or more, flexible straps (18, 20), which pass through hinge elements (22, 24) projecting from the pages (16) and through slots (26) in the covers (12, 14). Most preferably, the straps (18, 20) are retained by means of frictional engagement with covers holders (34, 36), which are positioned on opposite sides between the outer pages and the covers (12, 14). The preferred straps (18, 20) comprise a polymer material substantially free of halogen, preferably a material comprising low density polyethylene. The absence of halogens from such polymer materials reduces the likelihood that the polymer materials will degrade so as to release agents harmful to the quality of photographs stored in the phtograph album or scrapbook (10).
