SCAVENGER RECEPTOR AND USE THEREOF

A novel protein having a scavenger receptor activity which is usable as a target of preventives or remedies for arteriosclerosis. More particularly speaking, a protein having the amino acid sequence of the amino acids at the positions 1 to 254 in SEQ ID NO:1 in Sequence Listing; a DNA encoding this protein; a recombinant DNA vector containing this DNA; a host transformed by this recombinant DNA vector; and use of the above protein. By using this method, it is possible to search for a novel compound which has an inhibitory activity specific to the scavenger receptor as described above and is useful as a remedy or a preventive for arteriosclerosis.
