<p>Flame retardant insulating foams, and processes for their preparation, are provided. The foams include (i) a polymer blend of an alkenyl aromatic polymer such as polystyrene, and an α-olefin polymer such as polyethylene; and (ii) a flame retardant package including a halogenated alkane flame retardant, and an aromatic halogenated flame retardant, and optionally a flame retardant synergist. The flame retardant package improves the compatibility of the polymer components, and minimizes corrugation in thin foam sheets. The resulting foams are useful, for example, as thermal insulation and acoustic insulation in buildings.</p> |
