The catalytic thermal disposal of waste gases comprises feeding the waste gases to a reactor via a distribution device on the inlet side; and converting the combustible hydrocarbons using a calcium aluminate catalyst doped with precious metals. Preferred Features: The catalyst is heated to the reaction temperature using an external energy supply. One part of the exhaust gas heat is transferred to the exhaust gas side of the bleeder system via a heat exchanger and fed the preheated combustion air together with the waste gases to the reactor. Cold air is introduced into the reactor to control the temperature of the catalyst at high CH4 contents and corresponding higher temperatures.
