The present invention relates to a process for producing a cable, particular ly for medium or high voltage electrical power transmission or distribution, sa id process comprising the step of making at least one coating of said cable fro m an oriented thermoplastic polymeric material, said thermoplastic polymeric material comprising a homopolymer of propylene or a copolymer of propylene a nd selected olefinic comonomer. In detail, this process comprises the steps of feeding at least one conductor of said cable to an extruding machine, extruding said at least one coating into a position radially external to sai d at least one conductor, orienting said at least one coating during said extrusion step. The present invention also relates to a cable, particularly for medium or high voltage electrical power transmission or distribution, provided with a coating of oriented thermoplastic polymeric material.
