An air bag apparatus for use in a vehicle is provided with an air bag 30 housed adjacent to the interior surface of a vehicle body panel, such as a pillar member 1, and enclosed within a trim member 4 which is secured to the body panel by means of an elongate fastener 11 and grommet 12. The holding device 10 secures the trim member in a first position as shown, and in a second spaced apart position (figure 3) which is brought about by the inflation of the air bag. The trim member is more securely held in the second position in that an engagement claw 17 and a second engagement portion 26 prevent the trim member from moving further into the interior of the vehicle, however the elongate fastener 11 of the holding device may be rotated so that this connection is disengaged and the trim member may be removed whilst still allowing the holding device 10 to be re-used. |
